Family Nurse Practitioner, Advanced Certificate
The Master of Science Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program is designed to prepare registered nurses for advanced practice roles focused on providing comprehensive, patient-centered and culturally competent care to individuals and families across the lifespan while emphasizing best practice guidelines, health promotion, and disease prevention. This program combines in-depth coursework in advanced health assessment, pathophysiology, and pharmacology with discipline-specific content and hands-on clinical experiences, equipping students with the skills needed to diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic conditions. Graduates are well-prepared to sit for national FNP certification exams and excel in diverse healthcare settings.
Program Requirements:
- NYS Nursing License
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited nursing program
- Overall undergraduate GPA of 3.2 or higher
- Current, unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse (RN)
- Mandated child abuse and infection control education certificates of completion
- Current CPR card, which must include a psychomotor (hands on) skill component
- Proficiency in the English language
- Proof of vaccinations in addition to physical within the past year
- *Advanced Certificate Applicants: Students interested in and eligible for the MS-FNP Advanced Certificate program will have obtained a Master of Science degree as an advanced practice nurse from an accredited school of nursing in the US or Canada, with evidence of having previously completed advanced health assessment with lab, advanced pathophysiology, and advanced pharmacology and completion of a Master's thesis or project.
A gap analysis will be completed for a nationally board-certified advanced practice nurse seeking credit or a waiver for coursework towards completion of post-graduate education in another advanced practice area. Coursework must have been taken within 10 years of beginning the program.
